Colin Stephen Moir

11 December 1922 – 20 August 2025

36th Australian Infantry Battalion - WWII

Service Number: NX130072

It is with deep respect and heartfelt sorrow that we mark the passing of Colin Stephen Moir, a cherished member of our community and a proud veteran of the Second World War. Colin, known affectionately as “Col,” passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 102, leaving behind a legacy of service, resilience, and spirited camaraderie.

Born in 1922, Colin served with distinction in the 36th Australian Infantry Battalion during the Second World War, including active duty in Papua New Guinea. His courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers were exemplified in 1943 when he was saved from a raging river by his comrade, Sgt Ronald Patrick Ryan. Colin was the last surviving member of his battalion—a living link to a generation whose sacrifices shaped our nation.

Beyond his military service, Col was a beloved husband to Wenge, a devoted father to Susan (dec.), Colleen, and Colin Jr (dec.), and a loving Pop and Great Pop to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His presence at Anzac Day marches, where he was known for his spirited walking stick twirls, brought joy and inspiration to many. His warmth, humour, and humility endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched and in the enduring gratitude of a nation he served with honour.

Lest We Forget.
